Google Translate Unveils New Fast And Advanced AI Translation Modes

Google is developing new features for Google Translate aimed at improving user experience by prioritizing either speed or translation accuracy. Recent reports from Android Authority reveal that in version v9.15.114 of the Google Translate app for Android, a new selector allows users to choose between two translation modes: “Fast” and “Advanced.” This selector appears below the main Google Translate label and in the translation result section.

The “Fast” mode is designed for quick, casual translations, emphasizing speed and efficiency. In contrast, the “Advanced” mode utilizes Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence to enhance the accuracy and quality of translations, catering to scenarios where precise language is important. During current limited testing, the advanced accuracy mode is available only for English-Spanish and English-French translations in both directions.

These innovations accompany broader user interface changes in the app. In the updated design, the bottom section of the screen now features streamlined options for copying the translated text, entering input via handwriting, or using speech—consolidating features previously spread across menus. Additional buttons provide access to conversation mode, image-based translation, and a new “Practice” mode, which appears to be aimed at language learning and could compete directly with platforms like Duolingo.

Another set of recently tested features includes support for regional language variants and a tool for asking questions about translations, further enhancing personalization and utility. Though these updates are not yet part of the stable, publicly released version of Google Translate, they reveal a significant shift toward integrating artificial intelligence across the translation process and improving the app’s overall usability.
