Google enlists Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg in new Pixel 10 ad targeting Apple

With just over two weeks to go before the official Pixel 10 series launch keynote, Google has once again leaked its own unreleased smartphone to the public. In a new thirty-second teaser trailer posted to the Made by Google YouTube channel, the company pokes fun at its Silicon Valley rival Apple, taunting team Cupertino’s controversially unfulfilled promises surrounding its so-called Apple Intelligence-ready iPhone 16 handsets.

The video showcases what appears to be the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro in a new moonstone colorway, with a subtle metallic gray and blue design. Multiple angles of the phone are showcased, while being slightly obscured by a dark backdrop. The narrator references Apple’s failure to deliver on its Apple Intelligence timeline for its iPhone 16 lineup — which Apple says is coming soon — suggesting the listener change phones rather than change their definition of ‘soon.’

Near the end of the teaser, Dr. Dre’s 1999 hit The Next Episode plays in the background — a familiar hip-hop tune featuring both Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg, and one which has established itself within the meme canon of internet trolling. The video ends with a simple 8.20.25 text on screen, referencing the Pixel 10’s launch date of August 20 of this year.

Smartphones are the perfect vessel for all-things artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is all the rage these days. Every tech company under the sun is singing the praises of such things as machine learning (ML), large language models (LLMs), generative and agentic AI tools, and more. Major players in the space include Google with Gemini, OpenAI with ChatGPT, Microsoft with Copilot, and Meta with Meta AI, and several smaller services, such as X’s Grok and Anthropic’s Claude, are vying for market share as well.

At the consumer level, while there is certainly a sense of curiosity and excitement surrounding AI and its potential, and while there has been an uptick in the adoption of chatbots, many are also fatigued by incessant promises of life-changing AI tools and services from major brands.

Apple, one of the most valuable brands in the entire world, has been in a tumultuous position when it comes to its relationship with AI. The company’s Apple Intelligence suite of tools has received mixed reviews, and promises of a more powerful next-generation Siri have yet to come to fruition. This has resulted in a class action lawsuit, which alleges false advertising and deceptive claims surrounding Apple’s currently-available set of AI features across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Google continues to move from strength to strength with its own Gemini AI platform, and this new Pixel 10 teaser / attack ad hybrid is a crystal clear declaration of confidence. Its Pixel smartphones are an excellent vessel for unleashing AI into the consumer space, and the search giant appears to be besting Apple on this front in a very real and highly publicized manner.
